Dog Training Basics

Motivational Dog Training
Or
Basics of Understanding of the Dogs Mentality

Dogs Do Not Think
They are using Instincts and Reflexes

1. Dog Instincts and how to use it to your advantage in training
2. Conditional Reflexes.
3. What the DogTraining really is

• Instinct
Gineric - form of behavior, indivisualy vary for every kind of animal
(Food, defense, breeding, and parental behavial instincts)

Herd instinct
The inborn tendency to associate with others and follow the group's behavior

Dogs are the dissenters of a wolfs,
Therefore they have the same instincts as
There antsestors. Even the cutest little Chuawawa or Pekinese
have the same instincts as a wolf.

Wolfs live by the rules and have social structure that they obey and periodically test to know there place in a Pack.

When the wolf Pack is united (at fall time), the Leader of a Pack is Chosen by measuring the strengths of the members (a fight)

A fight between pack members is the selection of a Leader.

P.S. if you don't belive me watch Presidential elections "we have the same instincts :)".

That is why you as a Dog Owner should understand not to give the privileges of the Pack Leader to the dog, or you will have to fight for them later to get it back. You don't want to do that, especially if you have large breed of dog like Rottweiler, or Pitbull.

.
The Privileges of a Leader

1. The Leader of a Pack eat first, the rest of the pack eat after he is done.
So, for all you nice guys out there that can't svawal the food while your sweet doggy is still hungry:

EAT !!!

And only after you done, feed your dog if you don't want to degrade your status.

2. Don't let your dog enter the door in front of you.
If the WolfPack is traveling thru tight space, the Pack Members will step aside and the Leader lead the way
(This is why we call him a Leader)
This is not a Privilege, It is the Leader’s Duty to the Pack.

3. Do not let your dog to sleep in your bad
The Leader of a Pack sleeps where he wants; the rest of the pack surrounds him on the respectful distance (to keep him worm)

And in the Madding season (Spring for wolfs)
The Leader chose any Bitch that he wants for breeding purposes, which is another reason not to let your dog sleep in your bad.

P.S. If you are married, this is your Privilege
(And a Duty :) )

4. If your dog is leaning on you,
Putting his Paw on your lap, or fisicly toching you in any other way. It does not mean that your dog loves you
(apposite very disrespectful)
the dog is showing you his dominating behavior.

In the dog’s world, the distance is a sign of a respect.
The dog that is constantly leaning on you, or pushing you not just disrespecting you, but becoming a leader of your household Pack.

It is you, the Owner/trainer suppose to choose when to have a physical contact and when to end it.

Unconditional reflex
Generic – reaction for different action from outside, activated by the internal nerves system.

If you accidentally touched a hot pot, what would you do? You would immediately jerk your hand away even before you have had time to think about it. This action is called a reflex action. A reflex action is an automatic nervous action, in which a stimulus causes a rapid and totally involuntary response. In this case, the hot pot is a stimulus, and the jerk is the response.

Conditional reflex

Artificial Adoption of Reflective Reactions to the specific Actions.

When the stimulation of a receptor results in a spontaneous, involuntary reaction, it is called reflex action or simply reflex.

Conditioned reflex actions are a result of particular internal or external stimuli. The Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov and his associates popularised such conditioning process. Pavlov believed that whenever there was a response to a particular stimulus, a kind of reflex was established in the brain

Formation of Conditional Reflex
(In plane English-Training the Command)

Now the question arises — what causes a reflex action?
To explain it in simple terms, four basic processes are involved in a reflex action. These are — reception, conduction, transmission, and response.
The stimulus is received by receptors (nerve endings” In plane English-The Command”).
Energy from the stimulus is changed into nerve impulses and carried from the receptor to the central nervous system (In plane English-herring or seeing the Command).

The nerve impulses are then sent to the motor nerves (In plane English-Understanding the Command).
The motor nerves control muscle action, causing the muscles and glands to respond (In plane English-Responding to the Command).

What is the Dog Training really is

Training the Dog to a new Command is really is = Creating a new Conditional reflex. (That’s all it really is)

To achieve it, the key factor is Consistency

That means that the reaction for each action has to be same every time.
Example: if you don’t want the dog to jump on your laps, you shake him off your laps every time he attempt, not only when you are in a bad mood.
The dog will stop jumping on laps for good.

Another example of very common inconsistency mistake:

You are training your dog a ‘Sit’ command, and you repeat the command several times before you correct the dog to sit, or force him to sit.
By repeating the commands , the first several times that you gave the sit command and did not react to correct the dog to sit you actually were consistent (to teach the dog to ignore the command),
And then the last time you corrected the dog to be sited,
by wich you have broke the consistency.
So by now you just confused the holdout of your dog.

Or

The last time you gave the command you got upset and Yell the ‘Sit’ command and corrected the dog to ‘Sit’
Guess what, after several times you do that you teach your dog to ‘Sit’ only at the ‘yelling Sit’ command.
The command with consistent correction is The Command.

The Conclusion

To train the dog - you have to train the owner/handler.

The Dog will do the rest on his own :)
